Chris Rinne Invitational Recap

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside Track & Field braved cold and wet weather at times for the Chris Rinne Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the UCR Track Stadium.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Aaron Fruge cracked the top 10 in the men's high jump Friday with a 1.99m/6-06.25.  
  • UCR collected four top-six spots in the women's 1500, led by Marissa Hehir's first-place finish. 
  • Ashraf Abdelmagid won his second consecutive home men's 1500m, finishing in 3:50.76 on Friday.  
  • Matthew Mullane posted his best 800m season time with a 1:56.27 after brief showers had cleared on Saturday afternoon.  
  • Saniyah Starks set a new team best in the women's 400m with a 54.48, while Reggie Day did so for the men with a heat win in 47.80. 
  • Mateo Garcia hit a top 10 mark in the shot put with a 16.58m/54-04.75 for sixth all-time, squashing his previous mark by almost two meters. 
  • Michael Petrick ran a season-best 21.60 in the 200 for a new UCR season best and 10th all-time, while Elijah Yoshinaga picked up his own top 10 mark in the men's long jump.
  • Sophie Moser-Smith led UCR in her first 5k as a Highlander in 18:01.46.  

NOTABLES 

  • Fruge's mark is the second best in men's outdoor program history since 2008 and best since Owen Pennington's 2.03m (6-08.00) in 2023.  
  • Kaley Cardenas recorded a new collegiate best in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:52.56.  

UP NEXT 

  • The Highlanders will head to UC Irvine for the second and final time this season with next weekend's Steve Scott Invitational from Anteater Stadium.
