Cal State Fullerton - Winter Qualifier Recap

They came out to Cal State Fullerton and showed that there is speed set up in Orange County this year.

CIF-SS runner up Justine Wilson had the fastest time of the day in the 60 meters running 7.70 seconds with her freshman teammate Maliyah Collins right behind her (7.80). Wilson also qualified in the 300 meters running an impressive 38.86 behind CIF finalist Lanai Gant who now has the fastest time at 38.70 seconds. Gant will now also have the top mark in the 150m at 18.03. Collins was a triple qualifier in the 60m, 150m, and 300m.

The boys didn’t hold back either with State finalist Benjamin Harris topping the list in both the 150 meters (15.97) and now the second best mark in the 60 meters (6.93). The 60-meter mark is just three one hundredths behind Camden Connor who posted a time of 6.90 on Saturday as well.

In the girls 1500 meters, Juanita Shotwell and Audrey Heath are the first two to dip under five minutes with Shotwell leading the way in 4:58.70 and Heath crossing the line in 4:59.69.

In the boys 3000 meters, there were four qualifiers led by Senior Logan Shaw who hadn’t planned on running the event but now has the third best mark at 9:18.06.

Julia Teven who placed third at last years State Meet continued to show that the high jumpers are ready to go this year as she was only an inch off her PR, jumping an impressive five feet six inches.

Corynn Smith turned some heads with a Weight Throw of 51 feet nine inches. She also followed that with a qualifier in the Shot Put.

In the boys Pole Vault, Viet Le jumped a personal best of 14 feet 10 inches which is currently the third best qualifier.

Next weeks qualifiers will be held at Great Oak, Rancho Cucamonga and Yorba Linda on January 11.
